As we begin the year 2022, our revue title INTO THE UNKNOWN seems very appropriate. Plans that were made in 2020 and shifted into 2021 and are again shifted into 2022 are making everyone on edge and very anxious. But even in times of great uncertainty, working with these talented RHS MDT students has taught all of us flexibility, compassion and kindness.
Our show deliberately begins with the classic song Tradition from Fiddler on the Roof. These characters sing about the way things have "always been done" and that they find purpose and meaning in their traditions. But those traditions and customed become challenged and those characters are forced to adapt and change. The characters in Fiddler on the Roof are eventually driven from their homes "into the unknown."
Every song in our revue features characters that are put into a situation that is "unknown" to them. Some situations are humorous, some are heart warming and some are thought provoking. All of these characters (beautifully protrayed by these 28 talented MDT students) adapt, learn, grow and ultimately change. To quote the musical Wicked "Some things I cannot change, but until I try, I'll never know".
So as we bravely go Into the Unknown that is 2022, may we face our challenges with resolve, optimism- and sometimes, a well-choreographed dance move.
