You Can't Take it With You - March 19 - March 28, 2015

Robertson County Players

 End Notes

Director's Notes

Excited does not begin to describe my feelings about this show and the journey it has been.  I have loved this show since I played Gay Wellington in a production at Pull Tight Players in Franklin, TN 30 years ago.  The play was first produced on Broadway in 1936 and 80 years later, it is still very, very funny without changing a word.  Some of the references are definitely contemporary for the 1930s including a reference to Kay Francis, who was one of top grossing actresses in Hollywood at the time, the Singer Midgets, a popular circus act at the time and, of course, Mrs. Roosevelt who was first lady in 1936.

Your first impression of the Sycamore family is that they are....eccentric, but you will probably have a different opinion by the end of the play.  Grandpa lives by the creed, "You can't take it with you," and the rest of the family is more interested in pursuing hobbies instead of real jobs, except Alice, the only family member that seems to live in the real world.  Even if you still think they are eccentric at the end of the play, there is no doubt you will fall in love with all of them.

My deepest gratitude to a staff that made my job easier and to a cast that made my job a dream.  I hate to see it end.
