Welcome to the world of the 1920’s. The world was quite different, but our desire to form connections, have a family, and be loved is the same. Our story is about Jacob. He wants it all; a house, a spouse, a family, a safe and happy life. But he is gay and that was not possible. He lives in two worlds - the one where he is alone, trying to form connections through sex, and his idealized fantasy world of costumes and song and dance.
"I wrote this piece as a reminder that our newly found rights and freedoms cannot be taken for granted” says author Larsen, “ The things our main character wants is what we all want. He was just way ahead of his time.” Co-director Mills adds “There are 12 vintage songs in this musical. Tap, soft-shoe and vaudevillian numbers bring this heartwarming show to life."
It’s important to note that all of the songs being used tonight have not been changed. Recordings using the exact words are available. The songs represent the times and ring true today.
As you watch Jacob search for his dream, keep in mind how real that struggle is for many people today. We can celebrate our victories and inclusion, but fear and isolation remain for many people today.
Enjoy your evening and always celebrate your opportunity to Come Out! Come Out!
