Michigan Chillers - October 21

Saginaw Choral Society

From the Artistic Director

Friends,

It is my privilege to welcome you to the opening concert of Saginaw Choral Society's 82nd season. For 82 years this organization has stood as a pioneer of artistic excellence in our community. More than that, however, SCS truly embodies what it means to be a community ensemble. Our staff, singers, and directors live in the Saginaw Bay region. Our patrons continue to be a part of a cultural legacy that is steeped in the choral arts. Additionally, so many businesses choose to support Saginaw Choral Society knowing that our members and our patrons will continue to support local business.

This season is dedicated to the community that has so enthusiastically embraced Saginaw Choral Society for eight decades. Every member of the Saginaw Bay community shares ownership of this organization. Our singers are made up of our families, friends, neighbors and co-workers. We all look forward to the time when we can come together outside of our day-to-day lives and celebrate the good energy and beauty of song. A community rich in singing provides unparalleled opportunities for self expression and togetherness.

As important as it is for people to sing, it is equally important for people to listen. One without the other is incomplete. I encourage all of you to actively participate in song. Whether you choose to sing boldly or listen well, you are an important member of Saginaw Choral Society.

Every concert in this season is a celebration of song and the people who make art happen. Tonight, Saginaw Choral Society is thrilled to be joined by world renowned author and Michigan native, Johnathan Rand. Since I was young, I've admired Johnathan's dedication to the literary arts and young readers. Never having done a concert of this nature, I was thrilled when he accepted the invitation to join us, and I immediately immersed myself in the world of Michigan Chillers. I made it my mission to explore music that enhances the imagery of the stories. The result is what you will hear tonight. As Johnathan tells his story, we will set the tone with music. Music and words move together to influence the imagination in wildly chilling ways.

Join us this season as we create music and togetherness in the Saginaw Bay region. Without you, every performance is nothing more than a rehearsal. We will "sing boldly" if you promise to "listen well".

I am looking forward to celebrating another season of musical excellence with all of you. Together, we keep the Community in this Community choir.

Musically Yours,
