The first time I saw this musical was just after my 21st birthday. I laughed, I cried, and my heart was filled. From that moment on I loved this show. So much so that on my first date with my now husband, which was a blind date, I talked about this show. I shared the music with him, and the love I had for this show and for theatre.
I have always wanted to be a part of this show. As we discussed possible musicals to perform for this year - this one stuck with me. Then the opportunity for me to direct this year was presented. I was so excited that it was this musical that we had chosen to produce.
Although I had directed The Forgotten Carols the past two years, this was a new experience for me. It has been fun to see something in my mind come to life on this stage. I am so grateful for all the help I have had along the way. I really could not have done it without all the extra help that I was given.
I want to thank Tami Neilsen, Lauren Preston, Brandon Burnham and Eli Hendersen for all the extra work you put into this show. I also want to thank Laura Lechner for all the time she has

put into caring for my kids so that I could be here. I want to thank Daniel Lechner for going on this adventure of life with me by your side. Thank you for being there for me through it all.
This show is a bit different than the past shows we have done here at the Ford Theatre. One of the goals I have for this community theatre program is to bring all types of theatre experiences here to the Ford.
Bright Star is one of my favorite musicals. The music is so fun, the story is heartbreakingly beautiful and messy all at the same time. But isn’t that how life is? Fun, beautiful, messy, heartbreaking, even painful at times? I know my life has been.
There are moments in this show that may bring you to tears, may bring laughter, or joy, or even heartache. That’s why I love theatre. That's why we put so much of ourselves as actors and directors to these musicals. It is because you get to experience another's life vicariously through song and dance. The point of theatre is to bring emotions and experiences to our audience. That is what we have created for you tonight.
