Directors Note
There’s something so comforting about a story you’ve heard before. You
know the characters, the plot, the end. In reality, though, we don’t know
our stories. We’re living them out, moment to moment, and there’s no way
to know where they will go, or when they will end.
I love Into The Woods because it gives us the tools to live out the twists
and turns of our lives. It helps us to see the beauty, absurdity, and danger
in the world and the people around us. Each character speaks to a
different part of us and, if we let them, they can help to reveal to us a
deeper truth about ourselves as well.
This will be my fourth and final show as a director with these
amazing students and production team, and I can't think of a more
poignant show to end with than Into The Woods. I'm leaving to pursue
an amazing opportunity, but it's absolutely heartbreakinng to leave a group
of such dedicated, enthusiastic, loving, silly students. I will miss them all
so dearly. When it comes to the future, you could say that I'm excited and
scared.
To my fellow directors, I cannot thank you all enough. Ann, for your
discerning ear and infinite kindness. Chad, for your ability to juggle so
many tasks so my brain didn’t have to. Vinnie, for your precision and skill
in sculpting the most beautiful music. Dave, for tireless problem solving.
Brett, for your vision, creativity, and drive for excellence. Truly, no one is
alone.
I’d like to add a special thank you to my endlessly patient husband,
Adam, my enthusiastically supportive family, and to the Schaumburg High
School faculty and staff for being such a beautiful community to be a part of.
Thank you, and enjoy the show!
Lauren Reynolds, Director
