From the Director

"LEAPIN LIZARDS! Who'd have thought!" Welcome to the Seminole Theatre Players' production of Annie here at the Historic Seminole Theatre in beautiful Homestead. Annie, as we all know, is the story of a little orphan girl who finds a new family in the eccentric and gruff Oliver Warbucks, teaching him, and the President of the United States, the power of optimism! I think that is probably the most endearing and heartwarming quality of this show - optimism - the idea that no matter how bad things get you can count one one thing to be true and consistent, the knowledge that the sun will always come out tomorrow!

This is my second experience with this special show. I had the opportunity to play the role Annie, once upon a time (lets not get caught up on when... thank you) and I am thrilled to be able to revisit the show as its director. When the idea of forming a community theatre company here in Homestead was first pitched, there was some hesitation. Would there be the interest? Would we be able to find enough local talent that would be willing to help bring an idea to reality? That hesitation was completely unfounded! Not only has there been an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response by the local community and civic leaders, but we have discovered a wealth of talent in our community that most community theatre companies can only dream about!

I would be remiss if I didn't close by thanking my cast and crew, for it is they who have brought you this production! The long hours spent at rehearsals, the endless notes, the choreography, more rehearsals, more choreography - and through it all they remained upbeat, motivated, and driven to making this production the best it can be. With my 20+ years of theatre experience, both on the stage and behind it, it is easy to let everything blur together, to forget about the magic, but this cast has reminded me why it is that I love theatre so much!

It has been my pleasure to direct this wonderful cast, and I hope that you enjoy this production of Annie! - Misty White, Director & Artistic Coordinator, Seminole Theatre Players

The Seminole Theatre

The Historic Seminole Theatre is the premiere performing arts center of Homestead, Florida. The Seminole provides a creative hub of theater, music, dance and education in south Miami-Dade county and the Upper Keys. The Seminole Theatre's mission is to make the live performing arts accessible to the diverse community of the greater Homestead region and to attract established and emerging artists of excellence locally, nationally, and internationally.

The Seminole Theatre's history in Homestead dates back to 1916, when the Airdome Theatre in Miami was dismantled, put on a train to Homestead, and later renamed the Seminole Theatre.  A new movie theater was built in this current location in 1921 and adopted the Seminole Theatre name.  The theater has been twice ruined, by fire in 1940 and by Hurricane in 1992.  However, the citizens and elected officials worked to bring this jewel back to our community in December 2015, and it now operates as a state of the art performing arts center.
