"There must be lots of folks who would like a Brigadoon."
-Mr. Lundie, Act I
Imagine 2 WWII army buddies, coming home from Europe and realizing that everything they had been through and seen had changed them. They no longer fit into the care-free world of New York City Socialites and fancy parties they were a part of before the war. So they retreat on a hunting trip back to a place that makes more sense, a land as wild and ragged as their bruised souls. They go to the Highlands of Scotland.
They find a landscape that is as old as time and it begins to seep in and soothe their souls. And they find a village of people so lively and bright, passionate and loving that it begins to weave a fragile spell of healing around them. This is Brigadoon...It's not just the village that is magical, it's the people within. These are a simpler people. People whose first thought is of family and Clan; people who know how to work together for the greater good. People linked and tied together as intricately as any celtic knot.
As we manuever through a 21st century world that is driven by technology, social media, and 24 hour news channels that only report the negatives, wouldn't any of us long for a place that is calmer, slower, sweeter, and more at peace than the one we have? I think we all could use a Brigadoon, even if it is only for a day. In Brigadoon anything is possible. Even miracles.
