Curtains - February 27 - March 01, 2014

Sewickley Academy

 Director's Notes

At our first rehearsal, I told the cast and artistic team that one of the reasons I love this musical is because Curtains is a love letter to the theater. It not only celebrates the artists—those ‘show people’ who band together to create live theater—but it reminds us that what we do makes a difference in the lives of those who come and see our work. It is a communal experience that we share—as artists and audience—and Curtains exemplifies the joy and spirit theater has to offer everyone. And having a ‘Frank Cioffi’ around (though hopefully not for investigative purposes!) asks us to look at what we do as artists with fresh eyes and an open heart. It is for the ‘Frank Cioffis’ of the world that we endeavor to take this artistic journey.

As for my own journey on this production, I would like to extend a personal thanks to Kolia O'Connor and Jon Cassie for the opportunity to come and play on The Sewickley Academy stage with these terrific students; to Joey Yow, Joe Jackson, Tim Heavner and Brian Buckley for their artistry, friendship and a truly collaborative process; to the talented design and production team for their imagination, organization and problem-solving skills; and finally to a cast of performers who inspired me night after night with their talent, dedication and enthusiasm. They have not only proven themselves to be a wonderful ensemble, but have represented their own SS theater program with a great sense of professionalism and maturity.

...And now, it’s time to raise the curtain. At heart we are all show people. It’s time for the show to go on.

Until the next show-

Warm regards,

   M.B. Griffin
