The Hello Girls - March 27 - March 28, 2026

Shawnee High School

  Director's Note

Dear Shawnee Families,

Directing The Hello Girls has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have had in a very long time. This powerful musical tells the true story of American female switchboard operators who were sent to France during World War I as part of the U.S. Army Signal Corps. Known as the “Hello Girls,” these women played a critical role in the war effort, connecting thousands of calls under high-pressure conditions and often near the front lines. Their speed and accuracy were essential to military operations, helping coordinate strategy and ultimately save lives.

Despite their service, these women faced significant challenges beyond the battlefield. They were sworn into the Army, wore uniforms, and followed military orders, yet were denied official recognition as soldiers when they returned home. It was not until decades later that their service was formally acknowledged. Their story is one of perseverance, resilience, and a fight for equality that extends far beyond the war itself.

Throughout this process, I have seen reflections of that same determination in our cast. Many of these students have faced personal challenges of their own, yet they continue to show up, support one another, and give their best. They have stepped into leadership roles, built meaningful friendships, and created a sense of camaraderie that is truly special. The bond within this cast is something rare, and it has been an honor to watch it grow.

I would like to recognize our middle school performers who joined this production. Their talent, dedication, and enthusiasm have made a meaningful impact on this production, and they deserve every bit of recognition for their work.

To our high school cast and crew—thank you. Whether adapting to schedule changes, sharing space in the gym, or persevering through missed rehearsals due to winter weather, your commitment never wavered. You are the reason the long days are worthwhile, and your hard work is what brings this story to life.

Finally, I would like to extend my deepest thanks to Ms. Stephanie Lange. Your support, collaboration, and friendship have meant more than I can express. From late-night planning sessions to countless hours of preparation, this production would not have been possible without you. I am incredibly grateful to share this experience with you.

Thank you for being here tonight and for supporting our students. We hope you enjoy the show.

P.S You may also notice the large geometric structure at the center of the stage. This design is inspired by “dazzle camouflage,” a technique used on ships during World War I.
