Note from the Director:

For a first time director, Spring Awakening appeared to be intimidating. As I started to read the script, the vision came to life. I understood immediately the importance of this piece and why it should be shared with others.

Spring Awakening is the origin of desire. Our desire to connect with others, to discover ourselves, and to know more about the world around us. The show is set in 1891 Germany, where the oppression of our youth's voices is apparent. They live in a society that does not desire to ask questions about why things happen. However, the students find themselves questioning the answers they are receiving.

In 2014, we are still dealing with the consequences of ignorance. We live in a world that is afraid to educate our youth on sex, rape, abuse, suicide, and many other issues. However, when they slip up, we are quick to judge them for their transgressions. We chalk up the lack of education as protecting our youth, but how much of it truly does protect them? We should be encouraging them to ask questions, so they can better the world after we are gone.

I challenge you as an audience to stop the spread of ignorance. Open your eyes and recognize the world isn't black and white. Encourage the blossoming of our society, so we all may enjoy a purple summer.
