Welcome to Shining Star Players' premiere production! I have had the pleasure of working with an extremely talented group of young actors over the past few months. Their strength and hunger for the arts has shown through each and every rehearsal. I have always believed that a sense of urgency is one of the leading successful qualities in young performers. To be urgent, is to be aware and self-motivated to do your best everyday and work toward that end goal of that final performance. As the performing world is such a grueling business, having a safe, comfortable environment for these young actors to grow and prosper was one of my main goals in starting this company.
There are very few community theater options in town, especially for teens. This leads adolescents with few programs besides the standard, cookie cutter high school theatre model. I strongly believe that if you weave education and fun all into one, you truly come out with a perfect program model. Another one of my beliefs is giving back, there are so many young aspiring actors out there that may not have the means to participate in such productions because of large participation fees or other boundaries. I made it a priority, from the beginning, that no matter our budget, no matter our needs, I will not make any performer pay significant amounts of money to be a part of our productions. Everything in the world costs money, we see top tier Broadway tickets being sold for astronomical prices, money shouldn't be a barrier in a community theatre production.
In addition to other ways of giving back to the greater community, we donate $1.00 of every ticket sold to Little Hearts. Little Hearts is a pediatric cardiology support group that offers a variety of services for families whose children have congenital heart defects. I continue to stay in touch with families and members of Little Hearts and made giving back to their organization a top priority when launching Shining Star Players!
On to the show you are about to see: I have loved the story and music of The Addams Family since the moment I saw it for the first time back in 2010. I had seen the production when the OBC was still in it, Krysta Rodriguez, Bebe Neuweirth and Nathan Lane were the stars. There was a certain quality to the show that I couldn't quite put my finger on, I had never quite seen a performance of this caliber up to this point. The story was touching, yet hysterical, reserved, yet spectacular. The Addams Family has everything that you would expect from a big-fat Broadway musical: the iconic romantics, Gomez and Morticia, the quirky Grandmother, young son Pugsley and the creepy butler, Lurch. I guess I forgot to mention that little Wedneday is now a teenager and in love! I will leave everything else a a secret, except for the fact that chaos will ensue when Wednesday's boyfriend meets her family. Well, sit back and enjoy the show that will hopefully leave you in stiches, The Addams Family! "Doo, Doo, Doo, Doo, Snap, Snap."
Sincerely,
