From the Director...
I was lucky enough to see SPAMALOT in Chicago with the orginal cast before it went to Broadway. I was always a fan of Monty Python, but I was more familiar with their film THE LIFE OF BRIAN. I'm probably one of the few people in the world who hadn't seen MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL. I wanted to see the show in Chicago because I had always been a huge fan of Doug Sills, who was originally cast as Sir Galahad. As it turned out, Mr. Sills left the show before it opened, but I decided to go anyway. I'm so glad I did. I'll never forget sitting there with a bunch of Monty Python fans while they were laughing hysterically while there was absolutely nothing happening on stage. The stage was empty and people were going nuts. I couldn't understand what was going on. There was only a sound....the sound of coconuts clapping together. Obviously they knew what was coming. It happened many times during the show....just a music intro or a phrase and they knew. It was great. Monty Python's comedy brilliance is their uncanny mixture of sublety and over-the-top silliness.
I want to personally thank my wonderful cast and crew whose dedication to this production has made this a hectic but enjoyable experience. They have overcome every hurdle with grace and professionalism. Special thanks go to Scott Baker for undergoing many staging adjustments during the last two weeks because of his broken ankle.
