Audiences have been falling in love with the little mermaid ever since Hans Christian Andersen first wrote about her nearly two centuries ago. In 1989 Disney created the animated film version, which is a wonderful example of musical storytelling, with beautiful melodies by Alan Menken.
There have been many challenges for our cast and production team along the way. How do you bring to life sea animals and mystical characters? How do you create an underwater world on stage, and how do you make a beloved animated film into a live theatrical experience? Imagination and creativity are key, and I ask you to allow your imagination to lead you through this story about a father who is blinded by his love for his daughter, and a daughter who has the determination to chase her dreams.
I am thrilled to direct this Disney classic, and be able to inspire passion in young people through musical theatre. It has been a pleasure to work with this fantastic cast, and I know you are going to be just as proud of them as I am.
Please relax and enjoy your magical journey under the sea!
