  • JR Smith head shot

    JR Smith

    Director

JR's foray into theatre began as a 4th grader on this stage in Mr. Reece's production of Annie in 2008 as the appleseller. That show ignited a passion for the arts. He was in every Reece show from 2008-2015 and continued performing at the Smith County Courthouse for another few years after. In 2021, he founded Smith County Playhouse to give students in this county the opportunity he and his peers had. Since its founding, the Playhouse has grown and thrived. It's growth could not have been possible without the support of many parent and community volunteers. He couldn't do any of it without his wife, Allison, and his son, Silas. Allison's support and Silas' beaming smile keeps him going.

  • Michael Hesson head shot

    Michael Hesson

    Assistant Director

Michael Hesson currently serves as a special education teacher at CES and as the assistant cheer coach at SCHS. He has been involved in theatre since 2009, beginning with Bill Reece’s production of The Wizard of Oz, and went on to perform in seven additional productions with him through the Smith County After School Theatre Program. Michael continued acting at SCHS during his junior and senior years under the direction of JR Smith and Dillon Reed. He has performed in several shows with the Smith County Fine Arts Centre Theatre as well as serving as Assistant Director for Steel Magnolias during the 2023 production. No stranger to the stage, Michael is grateful for the opportunity to help bring Shrek the Musical to life and to continue supporting and strengthening theatre in Smith County.
