The Addams Family - March 27 - March 28, 2015

South Glens Falls High School

 End Notes

Notes from the Director

Since it first came out on Broadway in 2010, I had been intrigued by this musical.  Growing up with the comic strips, tv show, cartoon series, and revival movies, The Addams Family was always a solid reference point in my childhood.  When the rights for the musical became available, I immediately put it on my list of shows to consider and boy, am I glad I did.

What sold me on selecting this show was the emotional and moving song Gomez sings to his daughter, Wednesday, in the middle of Act 2.  Being a mother to two young children, and having the opportunity to watch our South Glens Falls music and theatre students grow over their four years of High School, it definitely resonated with me.  Life is full of bittersweet - or "Happy-Sad" - moments, but it's those moments that make life's experiences more meaningful and educational.

So, taking a cue from Gomez --

"I'm feeling happy . . . " because I'm very proud of the work that went into this production (from all sides!) and the subsequent outcome.

"I'm feeling happy . . . " because I've been able to watching these eager and dedicated young men and women blossom into accomplished and confident actors, technical crew members, and pit orchestra musicians.  The students and adult volunteers have come together to make absolute magic happen before your eyes through their passion.

"I'm feeling happy . . . " because I've had the opportunity to strengthen bonds and friendships with truly remarkable students, parents, colleagues, and friends.  Connecting with these individuals provides its own set of life lessons time and time again.  I simply can't thank those involved enough for being on this journey with me and impacting my life in such a positive way.

"I'm feeling sad . . . " because these are the last moments of theatrically collaborating with a very special graduating class.

But . . .

"I'm feeling happy . . . " because the memories will live on forever.  There is a special place in my heart for each production that I've been a part of.  Each time I walk across Stage 42, flip through a yearbook, or rummage through my dresser drawer of 'production tees,' I will think of you and the wonderful ways in which we came together to produce a show that we can be proud of.

With much love and gratitude,

Betsy Stambach-Fuller
