Southern Arkansas University Main Campus

 ABOUT OUR SEASON

From the President:

We have a very exciting theatre season for the 2018-2019 academic year!  SAU has some of the most talented and dedicated theatre students in our region.  In fact, their energy and excitement for sharing their talents is contagious!  I hope you will take the opportunity and continue to support our students by attending several of our shows this season.

From the Director of Theatre:

This is a season for growth and change; and new beginnings.  Our first show, Next to Normal, cracks open the deep, dark, and scary facets of the human experience.  While it would be easier - safer - to not talk about things, this family shows us that there is strength in vulnerability.  They choose to reach and fight for the light at the end of the tunnel.  Antigone continues to offer us strength.  She is strong and steadfast, even when faced with seemingly impossible choices.  She stays true to herself and her family. Family is far from perfect though, and Unexpected Tenderness reveals a complex family dynamic that will immediately touch your mind and heart.  The undercurrent of all the shows this season is hope, is strength, is family and community.  We conclude our season with, Sister Act - which gives us all of that wrapped up in one high-energy musical that everyone will be sure to enjoy!

In my short time here, I have already seen these students commit whole-heartedly to going on this crazy journey.  They are living, breathing, laughing, crying, and coming together as a family and as a community.  I hope that you will join us on the journey through this season, become a part of our community, and (like The Holy Order of the Little Sisters of Our Mother of Perpetual Faith remind us) - may we all "Raise our Voice" to "Spread the Love around".
