Super Jewels! A New Musical - June 20 - June 22, 2025

Spinning Tree Theatre

 About Spinning Tree

Spinning Tree Theatre was founded in 2010 by Michael and Andrew Grayman-Parkhurst. Following successful performing careers, they enjoyed working with each other as director and choreographer, and wanted to spend more time collaborating.

Spinning Tree debuted in April 2011 with "Make Me a Song: The Music of William Finn," and produced Kansas City premiere plays and musicals as well as intimate productions of classics. During the pandemic's forced shutdown of the 10th anniversary season, Spinning Tree's staff, Board and artistic team reimagined the future of the company. Based on an experimental 2019 production of "Starlight Express" featuring youth of all abilities, the mission of the company was adapted:

Spinning Tree Theatre provides Kansas City metro area young artists of all abilities opportunities to collaborate with professional artists in creating, rehearsing, and performing plays and musicals.

Recently, Spinning Tree has:

  • been honored by The Olivia Bloomfield Foundation and KC Current
  • been named Organization of the Year by The Whole Person
  • welcomed Tony Award winner Ali Stroker w/ Variety KC
  • been featured on the PBS/ArtsKC documentary “Art Moves Us”

Last summer, Michael had the honor of serving on an arts accessibility panel with Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, in anticipation of The Coterie Theatre's world premiere "Just Ask." In December, Michael was a recipient of the Johnson County Arts Advocate Award, honoring individuals who have dedicated significant time, effort, and leadership positively impacting the creative economy and the arts in Johnson County.

Spinning Tree enthusiastically supports the next generation of theatre artists and warmly welcomes you to this performance.
