Writing the director’s note is something I always struggle with, what to write about the production that won’t bore the audience or sound trite. The actors you see on stage, the crew behind the scenes, and several others not here tonight and I have spent the past 2 months “in the woods” and the weeds and some other places as we have created the world that you see on stage tonight. Into the Woods, JR, like almost all of the shows I have directed, has been a true labor of love. This is the third time that I have directed this show and the first one where I am a mother. I thought about the Baker and Baker’s Wife in this show a lot over the past few years and lost track of how many times I sang “I want a child..” in my head, and here we are with my husband and I having a 7 and a half month old at home. My son, Jace, has colored my view of everything including how I direct and I didn’t really realize it until recently. I want to create shows that I hope he would want to see, and maybe one day he will get to see Into the Woods, and who knows maybe even be in it!
This show is also special because it is the first time that Spring Valley Players has been back in action live on stage since the Covid-19 outbreak shut us down in March of 2020. Like several other theaters across the nation and world, we held our breaths as we went through the show hoping that we would actually get to put something on stage this year, and here we are! Please look below at the Special Thanks as without these special people giving their time, energy, and talents we would not have been able to have the amazing show we have.
