Alan Hoeckelman
Music Technician
Alan Hoeckelman received a BS Electronics – Communications degree with a minor in Physics from SEMSU. While there, he became a member of Phi Mu Alpha Professional Music Fraternity, Iota Psi Chapter.
He worked for ten years at McDonnell-Douglas Astronautics in the Harpoon program and four more at McDonnell-Douglas Training Systems as a tech writer. A budgetary layoff forced a change in career to that of a piano technician, which up to that point had been a hobby.
He spent more than three years at Ludwig-Aeolian Piano Exchange in Earth City and passed the required three tests given by the Piano Technicians Guild (PTG) becoming a Registered Piano Technician (RPT) in 1997. Over the course of some three to four years, he rebuilt more than 60 grand pianos while employed by a local technician, and several more were rebuilt while solo, including a nine-foot Mason & Hamlin CC for the Missouri State Capitol Rotunda. He has been a piano technician at SCC since 2006.
