Hansel and Gretel - October 29

St. Croix Lutheran Academy

Notes from the Director

Last school year I had a six-month obsession with creating decorative gnomes. They seemed to appear everywhere…at home and at school. While perusing scripts for this year’s Children’s Theatre, I read this version of Hansel and Gretel and saw there was a gnome in the first scene.  I knew this was the show for 2022!  Hansel and Gretel, who go through some perilous times, but end up overthrowing the…(whoops! almost gave the ending away!)

In our story, while the one evil witch may be more like 2...or 8 and seemingly impossible to defeat, good finally does win over evil.  And while our lives may not always be brightly colored and frosted like the candy house, and our troubles are seemingly insurmountable, we know that our final salvation is a sure thing because Jesus already won our salvation for us! And that changes everything.

It has been a joy to spend the last 6 weeks working with these awesome students in our beautifully updated facility. Whether working on blocking, characters, painting, cutting out paper gingerbread people, or marching in a parade, I can’t think of another place I’d rather be.  (Now if only we could work a dog into the story!)

To God be the glory!
