What is Autism?
Autism is a developmental disorder that affects a person's behavior and communication skills. The symptoms make it hard for these people to hold conversations and communicate with people. The symptoms that these people have can range from very mild to severe. 1 in 42 boys will have autism while 1 in 189 girls will have it. Autism is diagnosed and categorized by levels.
Levels of Autism:
Level 1
Children with this level of autism need little substantial support. These children have slight difficulty with simple social interactions. They won't pick up on simple social cues. They have organization problems and have diffuculty staying on topic.
Level 2
Children with this level of Autism require substantial support. Social interaction will be narrowed down strictly to interests while they showcase restrictive or repetitive behaviors.
Level 3
Children with this level of Autism require very substantial support. These children may face severe disabilities in verbal/nonverbal communication skills and great distress or difficulty with changing course of action or focus.
Signs at Any Age:
Loss of previously acquired speech, babbling or social skills
Avoidance of eye contact
Difficulty understanding other people's emotions
Delayed language development
Restricted interests and repetitive behaviors
Unusual/intense reactions to senses
