Disney's High School Musical - May 14 - May 16, 2021

St. Hubert's High School

 Director's Note

WHAT TEAM!? WILDCATS!

Never in my lifetime did I think I would have to come up with a new way of bringing live theater to the St Hubert's community. However, with the help of the unbelievable team at St Hubert's Theater Department and School, we were beyond thrilled to make it happen.

The challenges we faced to put on this production stretch beyond even a professional's imagination. From masking up every rehearsal and filming days, to keeping a safe distance on and off stage, to not being able to have our true intimate moments of theater that we are so used to. Through it all, we are still so grateful for the opportunity to come together and put on a show. (Something that a year ago was not possible to do safely!)

To be completely honest, High School Musical was a show I never thought I would do. It was the BOTTOM of my list. Looking back to September of 2020, when we had to make some decisons about what the program would look like (which included giving up our original production idea), I would still choose High School Musical.

The bottom line is; HSM is relatable. We all go through times in high school when we're too nervous to break the "Status Quo". You feel pressured to maintain a certain image, even though you're ready for something else.

Life is filled with so many great things for humans to love, appreciate, dream about, and go after. Why shouldn't we always encourage people to do what they want? Even when it's not something WE think they would have tried.

After the year we have all been through, isn't it time we break that "norm" and encourage those we love to go after their dreams? After all, "We're All In This Together".

As always, I have to thank my amazing production team. Even in a COVID world, they were ready to help keep our growing department thriving, and give our students a musical they deserved! To the staff and faculty at St Hubert's, Thank You for always being SO supportive of the Theater Department!

Just like every year, the biggest thank you goes to this unbelievely resilient group of students. There are no words to describe what you all mean to me, and the joy I feel watching you perform year after year. I may not be a fan of High School Musical- but I AM a fan of YOURS. I am so proud of what you have done this year. Within this school year you have brought 5 productions to St Hubert's of all different genres, testing your limits as actors, either through a computer screen, or in roles that were hard for you to connect to. Every year we work together, I become more proud, and this year has been no exception. In my 5 years of St Hubert's, this may be the most pride I have held for you all.

Better to consider opportunities now than in ten years, when life may limit your choices. - Ms Darbus
