Director's Note
Welcome to St. Isaac Jogues School's Production of Beauty and the Beast Jr.! Our cast and crew of seventy students have been hard at work on this production for the past several months. Students have learned the basics of acting, dancing, as well as set and prop construction and painting. We have been very busy to say the least!
Based on the original Broadway production that ran for over thirteen years and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, and the Academy Award-winning motion picture, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Jr. is a fantastic adaptation of the story of transformation and tolerance. Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Jr. features some of the most popular songs ever written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice. The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will remain changed forever.
It is no secret that putting on a musical takes extraordinary efforts and dedicated individuals. I would like to personally thank Mrs. Nora Lewis, Mr. Jeff Nowicki, and Mr. Patrick Heffernan for providing many opportunities for our students to learn foundational theatre skills and Mrs. Carol Burlinski for the opportunity to direct the SIJ Theatre Program. I would also like to thank my family for their constant support, all of our parent volunteers, and of course the cast and crew students for making theatre a fun and rewarding experience- the students allow me to truly grow as a director and teacher!
Lastly, I would like to thank YOU for your support of SIJ Theatre.
Enjoy the show!
