ST. JOSEPH HIGH SCHOOL PRESENTS

LEND ME A TENOR

 Book by

KEN LUDWIG

Director’s Note:

“I love people who make me laugh. I honestly think it's the thing I like most, to laugh. It cures a multitude of ills. It's probably the most important thing in a person.”

― Audrey Hepburn

Welcome to the St. Joseph High School Drama Club production of Lend Me a Tenor.  There aren’t many profound statements to be made about our fall play this year.  This comedy exists merely for the audience to get together and laugh, guffaw, chortle, or snicker their way through two hours of entertainment.

This show hearkens back to a golden era of comedy, even though it was written in the late 1980’s.  It reminds me of the classic Mel Brooks comedies: Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, etc., or the original cast of Saturday Night Live;  it is full of physically demanding slapstick and lightening quick paced puns.  With mixed identities and missed entrances there are few comedic gimmicks that Ken Ludwig leaves untouched.

Given the current social, political, and racial climates in our country perhaps a good laugh is all that we really need.

Please sit back and enjoy the show that our dazzling, and incredibly hard working, drama students are so excited to perform for you.

GRAZIE!

Principal's Note:

Dear St. Joe's Community,

Special thanks to our students who are performing on stage! We applaud your courage to make the words and emotions of this script come alive for us. Thanks also to the extensive crew, faculty moderators, and all who helped raise this production off the ground.

Drama is a group effort. Everyone's role, both visible and invisible, is important.

Thanks also to members of the audience. We appreciate you joining us here at the Huntington Auditorium. We are so enormously proud of our students! We continually marvel at their talent and collective drive towards excellence. Thanks for being here to bear witness to their art and for affirming them with your warm, gracious, applause.

Sincerely,

James P Keane, MDiv, MEd, PhD
