Dr. Daphne Davis
Dr. Daphne “Mama Noni” Davis is the Director and Chief Administrator of St. Sya Academy. A dedicated educator and leader, she currently teaches Literature, English Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. Dr. Davis is also a proud multi-hyphenate—both a creative force and a committed academic—bringing a rich blend of artistry, intellect, and heart to everything she does.

Arielle Smith
Sister Arielle Smith is our English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher. She is St. Sya Academy alumni, a Bennett College alumnus. Sister Arielle is trained in history and specializes in the African Diaspora culture.

Zayd Shakur
Baba Zayd Shakur is our Math, Theater, Art, and Physical Education Teacher. He isa multi-hyphenate creative specializing in music, Hip Hop, and martial arts. He hasbeen part of the St. Sya family since 2016.

Telli Shabu
Baba Teli Shabu is an internationally recognized African American musician specializing in traditional drumming and the Kora, a West African stringed instrument. A gifted music educator, Baba Teli teaches students of all ages with passion, precision, and deep cultural insight. He has been a cherished part of the St. Sya Academy community for nearly two decades, inspiring generations through rhythm, tradition, and heart.

Dion Jackson
Dione Jackson, the dance teacher at St. Sya Academy, was born and raised in Hickory, North Carolina. A graduate of North Carolina Central University, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fitness and Wellness. She believes in the power of using the body to express what music makes the soul feel. For Dione, dance isn’t just movement—it’s life.
