Guys and Dolls - May 05 - May 12, 2015

Stansbury High School

 Acknowledgements

From The Director:

I love this show, I've been in it 3 times, twice as Nicely Nicely and once as Big Jule.  To me this show is truly a love letter to Broadway and the characters that exist in Musical Theatre.   Based on Damon Runyon's stories of New York, this play came to existence in 1950, ran for 1200 performances (almost 3 years)  and won the Tony Award for Best Musical.  It's been revived 3 times on Broadway with the revival starring Nathan Lane and Faith Prince running for almost the same length as the original, a London production in 2005 starred Ewan McGregor as Sky Masterson and ran for almost 2 years.

I thought this was the perfect show to do with my students, because above all else, this drama program is full of the larger than life characters that inhabit this play.   I take great joy in watching these young men and women come to their full potential in this program, and love to watch them move on into their adult lives the better for it.  They are what makes this program what it is, and for that I am truly grateful.

Some of these students are appearing on this stage for the last time in their High School careers, and to them I dedicate this show.   I've watched you grow and progress into the people you are today.  I've watched your ups and downs and witnessed all (or most) of your teenage angst, and I wouldn't change a moment of that.  Remember the character who said "That which does not kill us makes us stronger!"  This is true to me, and true to you, it's true to our program, and it's going to be true for the rest of your life.   Learn to roll with the punches, and learn to take those experiences and let them make you the strongest individuals you can possibly become.

To the SHS Community and the Stansbury Park Community.  Thank you for your support, thank you for helping this program become the first in the school to complete the trifecta, you've helped us become the 3 time 3A state champions in Drama.  You've shared with us all the joys that comes with that.   I hope you continue your support of the arts, and I hope you continue your support of this program, and this school!
