From the Director...
“Theatre contains a multitude of worlds, each requiring a unique set of creative and esoteric skills. These separate spheres of expertise combine and fuse, as a string of notes become a melody, and melodies intertwine to create a symphony. In this way, theatre creates a synergy – a result greater than the sum of its parts – a harmonious, living production,” (Shenan Arts, 2018).
"Grease is the word..." and in our case, it's also the heart.
Achieving unity amidst diversity is no easy feat—whether you're in high school or beyond. But as we see in Grease, when people bring their unique voices, talents, and perspectives to the table, it sparks connection and growth. Set against the backdrop of Rydell High, Grease reminds us of the excitement (and occasional chaos!) of discovering who we are, where we belong, and how to stay true to ourselves—without getting lost in the "beauty school dropouts" or "hand-jive" of social expectations.
Cliques and labels may try to keep us apart, but when someone dares to lead with courage—yes, even if it means breaking a few rules or slicking back your hair just right— "it [can be] the start of something new.” When students from different programs, departments, and backgrounds come together like this, something truly electric happens. That’s when we "get chills... and they’re multiplyin’!"
I want to extend my deepest thanks to our incredible administration team, dedicated colleagues, and brave, brilliant students. This production wouldn’t have been possible without your heart, vision, or collaboration.
Today's performance is extra special because it marks the first time our full cast and crew have assembled in the theatre together. Students have come together from various class blocks and departments, contributing in every capacity—from actors and crew members, to student choreographers and directors. Many of them are taking the stage, working on our crew, or leading a creative process for the very first time. So yes—today you may see a few “bumps on the road,” but that’s the beauty of live theatre, especially in a setting where courage is center stage. We aren’t just putting on a show—we’re celebrating growth, collaboration, and the power acceptance.
May you sit back and experience today’s performance with an open mind, joyful heart, and imaginative spirit. I am honored to have had the opportunity to work with each member of this cast and am so very proud their accomplishments.
Whether on stage, behind the scenes, or in the audience seats, may this theatre space we share be a source of hope, love, belonging, and laughter for all who enter.
