My Dear Audience,
Welcome to Shrek The Musical, and to Steinbrenner history in the making! Not only are we showcasing a record number of students performing on this stage this weekend within our combined cast, but we have a full student pit, which is also student conducted! This is our very first full Performing Arts collaboration at Steinbrenner High School, and we couldn’t be more excited. I want to thank my talented team of fellow arts teachers for their hard work and dedication to this show, and all that they do for our performing Warriors: Mr. Corey Poole for vocal direction, Mr. Jason Allgair for arranging and directing the pit, and Ms. Grace Jeon for helping coach musicians and stepping in to play in our pit on select evenings, and Mr. Matt Caudill for helping with choreography, and Mr. Don Sizemore for his endless support and encouragement…I couldn’t ask for a better group of passionate arts teachers to work with on such a fun project!
We couldn’t have chosen a better show to kick off what is sure to be a legacy of school-wide spring musicals. Shrek The Musical spreads such encouraging messages of self-acceptance, love, and inclusiveness…qualities that the arts offers to all students who find their ‘home’ within our rehearsals, on our stage, or with music or instruments in their hands. Aside from the immeasurable values of confidence and rigor, our performing arts students are learning creative problem solving, communication, leadership, expressiveness, emotional and societal intelligence, and the value of hard work. The hours are long, the rehearsals sometimes tedious; but I know I not only speak for myself, but for my colleagues when I say that the life skills, memories, friendships, and experiences we are offering our students here at Steinbrenner High School can be life-changing, life-affirming, memorable, and always worth the time and effort!
Thank you for being here tonight and helping celebrate and support the arts in our school! We hope you enjoy the show, and come back for more! We have a full concert series in Band, Chorus, and Orchestra, as well as three full Theatre Productions a year… and we have your seat waiting!
See you at the next show!
Cheers!
