A Note From The Director:
When I saw this play on Broadway, I loved it; and I knew it was a story I wanted to tell at Studio Players when the opportunity presented itself.
Noah Haidle’s script is a beautiful story of life, love, and loss that is masterfully crafted. The dialogue Haidle has written illustrates Kenneth’s line in the play “There are those of us who believe that history is circular and that our every thought, word, and deed will recur eternally”. You will see patterns, hear lines repeated by different characters as Ernestine’s life moves from age 17 to over 100.
The play opens on Ernestine’s 17th birthday; she asks for her mother’s help with her audition for Queen Lear. This choice of play is very deliberate, the cast and creative team discussed many of the parallels with Shakespear’s King Lear and Ernestine’s own story through our rehearsal process.
This amazing cast will bring you moments of laughter, joy and sadness. I hope it will move you in many ways as they tell this story.
