MidSummer; Kinda? - November 16 - November 19, 2023

Suffolk University Theatre Department

 NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR

Welcome everybody!

Shakespeare has long been considered a foundation of theater, as a theater artist myself I have struggled with loving the Bard. Don’t get me wrong, I get the importance but with the language and some of the bizarre aspects of the world, it just never connected with me. It wasn’t until I saw Fat Ham at the Public that I saw another way into Shakespeare.

I was reminded of 10 Things I Hate About You and She’s The Man, rom-coms that played with Shakespearean stories but made them accessible. These movies shaped me as a young person but also showed me a way into Shakespeare that I could connect with and see myself in. And that's what I wanted to do with this show, make Shakespeare accessible, relatable, and fun!

MidSummer; Kinda? is a nostalgic reminder of college, the time of finding yourself, trying new things, and going against the expectations society gives us. So come with us on this journey of love, magic, and self-discovery!
