Marley's Ghost - December 12 - December 13, 2019

Sullivan High School Missouri

 A Note from the Director...

A Christmas Carol; one of the most easily recognizable names in both literature and on the stage.  This tale has been told and retold over the years, Marley’s Ghost is just that, another evolution of this classic.  Scrooge’s redemption story is well known; however, the life and afterlife of his partner, Jacob Marley, is not. That is what this play encompasses.  His story and his attempt at redemption.

Two years ago, this program was lost and seeking direction.  The play which set our program on its own path of redemption?  A Christmas Carol. Revisiting the world of Charles Dickens and these characters has been a joy.  Being able to bring the Christmas spirit early, especially after the hardships we have faced, was a lovely change of pace.  Rewind to two years ago when there was no crew (except Steven of course!), our account had $11.64 in it, our set consisted of acting boxes and props made from Dollar Tree and a cast that was not used to the fast paced schedule of a professional program.  Now fast forward to today. Our students know the terminology of theatre, they take on their younger apprentices and teach them the tools of the trade, the rehearsals are run by our young artists, these pieces are built by our young craftsmen ...in short, we are Sullivan High School Theatre.

This program is open to students throughout the district, varying in age ranges depending on the needs of the show.  The program is framed as any professional theatre is, these kids know what to expect and how to act when they leave our doors and walk into the professional realm.

We thank you for joining us on this journey of Marley’s redemption, and our own.  We thank you for supporting the Fine and Performing Arts in Public Schools! And most of all, we thank you for the many years of love and dedication to the Sullivan School District.  We are nothing without your kindness and support.

A Christmas Carol is one of my all time favorite stories to read, movies to watch and shows to see.  I have been blessed with this tale and its many evolutions throughout my life and continue to be so by sharing this story with these wonderful students!  May this story and their hard work enlighten your minds and warm your hearts as we enter into the Holiday Season. May you and your family, from us and ours, have a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!
