Student Directed and Designed One Acts - April 16 - April 17, 2021

Sullivan High School Missouri

Notes from the Directors & Designers

My goal with this show was to convey the idea of confusion. It resembles a dream where you are the only one out of the loop. It spoke to me as the main character, George, is lost and unaware what he is supposed to do. Not knowing what is going on is a theme I've carried and watched carried out by others. The show will take you through multiple different shows, from "Private Lives" to "Hamlet" as George stumbles through his lines.

Me and Logan chose this show because we have already seen the show, so it would be an easy show to do. Our design concept was to be very modern, from the clothes to the set. This is mine and Logan's first time doing our own show, so it's a cool experience to be able to do this.

This is a show about an audition and all the different people you may possible see in this crazy and chaotic few minutes before the real performance starts. The set is a visual of high schoolers waiting nervously before an audition. I choose this play because over the summer I watched Ms. Wibbenmeyer (the drama teacher at the high school) perform in virtually.

13 Ways to Screw Up Your College interview is short, sweet, and comical. I chose this show because it is lighthearted, which is what we need in these times. As far as design goes, Loren and I kept the characters mostly the same, with a few tweaks here and there to make the show our own. Throughout the show, there should be a bit of 2000s vibe, mainly through the music between scenes and at the beginning and end of the show, and we used the lights to create the effect of rooms. I hope you enjoy the show!

13 Ways stuck out to me because, in a few short years, I will be attending college interviews. It takes a comedic look at what could possibly go wrong at a college interview, and is a lighthearted comedy about college. I chose to design a show because I wanted to stretch my wings a bit, but still stay within the realm of technician. I came up with the costumes and set design after reading through the script. All in all, 13 Ways to Screw Up Your College Interview is a comedy, and should be a fun viewing experience for everyone. Maybe you can reminisce about your own college days, or simply sit back and enjoy the wacky action.

This show is a comedy. It's a mix between Law and Order: Special Victims Unit and fairy tales. This play is the story of the Three Little Pigs, but with a twist. It portrays the Law and Order: SVU drama while still being light and humorous for all audiences. I picked it because I couldn't help but to laugh over and over while reading the script.

Check Please is an entertaining comedy following the story of a guy and a girl who are just trying to find a normal person to date. Dating can be hard. Especially when your date happens to be a raging kleptomaniac, or your grandmother's bridge partner, or a mime. Check Please follows a series of blind dinner dates that couldn't get any worse -- until they do. I chose this show because I feel like there are a lot of people who can relate to it (hopefully on a less extreme level). I hope everyone can get a good laugh out of this chaotic comedy and enjoy the show as much as I do.
