DIRECTOR'S NOTES

Humiliation, ridicule and other forms of bullying are sadly an all too familiar part of everyday life for countless students.    Unfortunately, the effects of bullying are quite severe, resulting in everything from damaged personal relationships, to full out violence.  It is estimated that 77% of students are bullied in some fashion.  Even more disturbing is the fact that 8 out of 10 instances of school shootings are a direct result of bullying.

I feel this show, as well as Stephen King’s novel, offers the audience a window into high school life, and how brutal the behaviors and interactions between students can really be.  I hope that after seeing Carrie, people will walk away with the reminder to treat everyone with respect, no matter how different they may be.  Besides, just like the character of Carrie White, everyone has something that makes them special.
