Tahoe Truckee High

   From the Director

This musical was an absolute pleasure to direct. I am so grateful that this great group of young actors decided to take a chance on me in my first musical with Truckee High. We started rehearsing for this show in January and I have had the privilege of watching this talented group of young people become a true family. The cast grew to love and appreciate this show as much as I do and this passion has translated into a true labor of love for us all.

Newsies contains so many timeless messages that could not be more relevant today. The most important message being the empowerment of groups that are taken advantage of, or overlooked. Newsies deals with discrimination, separation of class, and poverty, directly and honestly. This is so important for us to be reminded of; that we still live in times where discrimination and socioeconomic status can affect the opportunities and outcomes of our lives.

I want to thank everyone that helped me make this incredible show a reality. Most of all I would like to thank my cast and crew for their dedication and support. This has been, without a doubt, one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. This show would not have been possible without an incredible team behind the scenes. Special thanks to Jeff Engerbretson for being my right hand in building the set and giving me advice and support with the students. Thanks to Mark Brady for being my support and liason at the school. Thanks to my brother Jon, the assistant director and producer, for being my support and taking on any jobs needed to make this show a success. Theater takes a village and I am humbled to see so many organizations and people step up to donate and support our production. I so appreciate our sponsors and the Truckee High School administration for making this show happen! Thank you so much for attending and showing your support for local theater and the arts!
