Welcome to our production of "I-DJ" by Gregg Barrios. As the director of this play, I am thrilled to bring this poignant and powerful story to life on stage. I feel this show, in this space, really gives audiences a taste of what Teatro Audaz is capable of when it comes to authentic storytelling and performance no matter the size of the production. We also wish to honor Gregg Barrios and almost deliver a love letter to its original production but of course with our own Teatro Audaz flair.
"I-DJ" delves into the vibrant and complex world of DJ culture, exploring themes of identity, authenticity, and the search for connection in a digital age. While many would say this story is told through the lens of the main character, Warren Peace, it was through thorough script and text work that we as a production team came to the conclusion to take a bit of a different approach with our telling of this story. We believe that this story is actually being told from the perspective of DJ Silence the entire time as a love letter to his mentor, DJ Warren Peace. It is through his eyes that we witness the highs and lows of pursuing one's passion in a competitive industry, while also grappling with personal demons and the pressures of societal expectations that he witnessed DJ Warren Peace experience.
Barrios' script masterfully weaves together compelling characters and gripping narratives, inviting us to reflect on our own relationships with music, technology, and each other. With its dynamic blend of humor, heartbreak, and hope, "I-DJ" offers a thought-provoking exploration of modern life and the universal human experience.
As we embark on this theatrical journey together, I encourage you to immerse yourself fully in the world of the play, allowing yourself to be moved, challenged, and inspired by the stories unfolding before you.
