Thank you for being here with us tonight. Theatre is a shared experience. It is a celebration of the human spirit. And today, we celebrate the spirit, resourcefulness, and perseverance of a wonderful, and talented group of students. They have invested so much of themselves into this production, and we are very pleased to share it with you.
Directing a show here at Doane Stuart feels, especially important, as I am a graduate of this fine school. I love everything it stands for, and my daughter is performing in the show! There is no greater joy.
Typically, my post final-dress rehearsal ritual starts with a glass of wine and my laptop. I sit down after weeks of rehearsing, miles of running around town for props, and nights of limited sleep to engage in my other love – writing. This time, however, has been a most unusual experience, having jumped into a production with only 9 days left to pull it together! Not only have the students been astounding, but the immeasurable support of my professional colleagues and fellow Doane Stuart parents has been incredibly heartwarming. Without the support of every one of them, we would not be here today.
Sit back and enjoy the thrill of watching these incredible students deliver an entertaining and fun production. You will, no doubt, see their hearts and souls on this stage, as I have over the past 9 days of preparation.
“When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you…never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn. – Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811-1896), American abolitionist and author.
