Welcome to The Island Theater!
We are so happy and grateful to have you with us for our production of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare [abridged] (revised). Our purpose is theatre education, both on stage and in the audience. Our shows are meant to bring thoughtful purpose to life by telling meaningful stories that connect with our audience and performers in different ways. As you laugh through “Complete Works,” you may find yourself wondering how this show is associated with those ideas. We assure you that the small cast and crew of this show has been bonded forever, and we know you will see it when we have you laughing out of your seats.
The Island Theater has many programs through which we spread our mission. Today you are participating in one of our Main Stage Productions. You are part of something great. We are connecting with each other and gaining a greater understanding of humanity through the arts.
Through theatre, performers learn to connect with each other through analyzing the script and making choices for characters that never existed, and then working through that with each other. They then extend those connections to the audience from the first time the lights come up, but it doesn’t end when they take their final bows. The amazing moments and even silly mistakes all work together to create a memory of human interaction the way that only live theatre can do. It continues as part of our hearts after we leave the building.
Working with Matt, Vincent, and Bobby have enlightened me to how flexible theatre is, and what it means to each individual performer. They make different choices to decide what is best and kept me laughing through the entire rehearsal process. We thank you for supporting your local theater so that we can continue to perform with each other and go through this experience with you as an audience again and again.
