Over my 28 years in community theater I have met all types of people and various personalities, so many in fact that at one time I thought to myself that with all the different personalities and drama that surrounds certain productions that there could be a show written about rehearsing for a show for you have all the elements right here (comedy, tragedy, rivalry, romance, jealousy and rage) all rolled into one cast.
Well someone already thought the same thing and that someone was playwright Rick Abbott and the show is "Play On!" The first time I saw "Play On!" I immediately found myself comparing characters to people I have done shows with over the years and realized that this is the perfect love letter to those who has been involved with community theater at some point in their lives and I along with this talented cast are very happy to be presenting it for you today.
It has been a very fast paced and tight rehearsal schedule with everyone juggling their day to day lives and rehearsing two times a week (one of those days being Sundays during football season? I don’t know what I was thinking!) and most of our cast have had to learn two characters which is no easy task, but one which they have all done admirably. To say I ran this production with a “skeleton crew” is an understatement but with their help and the help of the cast, we present the result of our teamwork and passion for the theater and I thank everyone who helped us along the way…for that is what community theater should be.
