Student Short Play Festival - March 05

 Director's Notes

From Mr. McGriff:

We are so excited to welcome you virtually to the H-Term Student Short Play Festival!

For the past 7 weeks, our students have been working hard to enter what has been (for many of them) unchartered territories. Our actors and theater tech students have now picked up the pen and put on the director or producer hat and have created a series of short plays that I am proud to say are phenomenal. To witness our students, learn new skills and create, write, direct, cast, produce, rehearse and ultimately pull together their own production (with limited assistance) has truly been a pleasure.

I am equally excited that our first Student Short Play Festival includes such a diverse and wide range of subject matters. Each student was asked to come up with a topic that was important to them. From this topic they would create their short play. It is fresh and heartening to see our students tackle such important topics and encouraging to see that they have a clear artistic voice. Turning their topic of interest into a fully realized piece of theater was a challenge that these students met head on and with an enthusiasm that I wish I saw in more adults. If these students are any indication of the future of theater, then theater is going to have an exciting, captivating and profound future indeed. I have decided to keep my directors notes brief as I am not really the director of this project. It is the students who are the true creators, and I am honored and elated to celebrate their work! I couldn’t be more proud of every single student involved!

We now invite you to sit back, relax and enjoy the H-Term Student Short Play Festival!
