Carrie the Musical - June 20 - June 23, 2019

The Spotlight Performers

 End Notes

From the Director

When we were trying to figure out what do next, it was hard to choose after the undeniable success of Heathers. While surprising many, we chose the infamous movie/book turned musical, Carrie. If you aren't aware of the history behind this fame (and infamy) of this show, the cliffsnotes version is simply this: it didn't do so hot. When it first released on broadway it was open for only 5 performances before it reached it's end and went down in history as one of the biggest flops of all time. But then something beautiful happened. The team behind the show came together in 2009 to rewrite and simplify the show. Once they realized you didn't need the bells and whistles to perfectly tell this story, the musical was reformed and redeemed. In 2012 it reopened off broadway to great reviews, and the rest is history. If you aren't already familiar with our theatre company, we've stuck to our mission statement strongly that is to create theatre that provokes thought, excitement, and breaks the conventional idea of how theatre is created. With Carrie, we have done just that. Not since our very first show have we had this much interaction and connection to the audience and raw emotion poured into these characters. Branching off of that, we also have not had this many young artists at once in such a complex and challenging production which has now provided a platform to them to perform in that they haven't been able to receive anywhere else. It's important to have these types of productions openly available to students because it's what they can relate to most and allows them the opportunity to express themselves in outside of conventional means. As you watch our production tonight, I would like you to not only enjoy the story but watch as how these actors grow within their roles through the night and make difficult choices most have not had to make just yet. I am undeniably proud of how far these cast members have come since the beginning and I hope you will be to by the end of the night. Thank you for supporting the arts in the community and make sure to spread the word of this amazing show.
