Thank you SO MUCH for joining us for this incredible production of MATILDA here at The Springer Studio Youth Theater.
These children are amazing. They are resilent. They are courageous. They are determined. They may be REVOLTING every now and then, and who can blame them?! In my opinion, they are the REAL heroes throughout this whole pandemic experience. Their lives have also been turned upside down. Some haven't left their house or their bedroom in months- Some haven't seen their grandparents or friends for weeks and weeks. We, as adults, worry about the concrete stuff of life like money and bills and safety- but these kids have been denied their CHILDHOOD in many ways. Thankfully, it won't last forever and we are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Our theme throughout this process has been "ownership". We strive to instill in each student a feeling of empowerment and ownership of their performances. Especially in these times when so much is out of their control, I think it is crucial to give these kids a place to be IN control, to be given choices and the opportunity to create something extraordinary. Then, they get to decide how they want to give it away, to share it with all of you.
I am incredibly proud of each and every one of these maggots and I hope and pray that they are proud of themselves and that you all enjoy this performance of MATILDA!
