Creating a Role

The Theatre Lab

For over 30 years, The Theatre Lab has provided the Washington D.C. metro area with award-winning dramatic arts education and life-changing opportunities for creative self-expression. We are the largest independent theatre school in the DMV area, with classes for students of all ages and experiences in acting, musical theatre, playwriting, TV, film, voiceover, and much more.

What makes The Theatre Lab unique is our commitment to (1) using theatre education to create a community of inclusion and belonging, especially for our region's most vulnerable, and (2) developing a next generation of artists who are prepared to tell stories that speak to our shared humanity. Each year, we offer need-based scholarships to young people, removing systemic financial barriers to arts participation, and teach hundreds of people to create original works of dramatic art based on their lived experiences.

The Theatre Lab's Send a Kid to Camp Campaign makes it possible for hundreds of young people from low-income households to attend our award-winning summer theatre camps. At a time when students are still reeling from the isolation and academic disruption of the pandemic and DC-area families are struggling with layoffs and new economic realities, access to the artistic and real-life benefits of arts education matter now more than ever.

In 2024, we awarded more than $150,000 in scholarships to 167 students, creating lively, structured artistic spaces where they could develop theatre skills, make new friends, and forge new creative paths. This year, we aim to do even more! Your entire donation goes directly to a child!
