A Midwinter's Nightmare - February 25 - February 26, 2021

The Woodhall School

 End Notes

Have you ever had the dream where you're flying? Or what about the one where you're falling? Slumbering dreams can be amusing when we awaken but what does it feel like to live your worst nightmare? “Fight or Flight” is the theme of our 2021 Woodhall Players Season. In these unprecedented times globally and nationally, we as a school community are thrust in the midst of a battle for our health, normalcy, and futures. As a theatre ensemble, we are exploring humanity’s responses to conflict and victory.

Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream is a memorable tale of “flight.” Hermia is faced with a forced marriage and flees with Lysander into the woods. In our student-written adaptation, three bizarre types of characters- Telenovela stars, Hillbillies and Celtic fairies interact in this nightmarish comedy. Our production is completely student-created from our team of student playwrights, to student director, stage managers, designers, and of course performers.

We have chosen to produce this play as a stage reading so you will see performers at music stands with binders. Also, due to Covid protocols, performers will be masked and using microphones. We will perform for our residential community live as a dinner performance on Thursday and Friday and stream this final performance to the public. The performance is about 35 minutes with a brief talk-back for our live audience. The video or audio recording of this performance by any means is strictly prohibited.

On behalf of the cast and crew of A Midwinter’s Nightmare, I would like to extend a standing ovation to these dream makersDoreen Brooks, Mr. Phuntsock, Mrs. Shkrepi, Mr. Vincent, The Warner Theatre, Mr. Woodhall, and Ana Maria Manosalva Yunge.
