My Three Angels - November 29 - December 15, 2024

Theatre Knoxville Downtown

 Notes

From the Director:

Before I was first offered the opportunity to direct My Three Angels, I was not familiar with the play nor had I seen the movie version, We're No Angels. However, once I read the script adapted by Samuel and Bella Spewack in 1953, from the French play La Cuisine Des Anges by Albert Husson, I was enchanted with the story.

The play is set in 1910 in French Guiana, a territory of France located in the northern coast of South America. This comedy, set during Christmas, focuses on three convicts from a neighboring penal colony. While they all have the capacity to seek revenge against those who wrong them or others, they also have warm hearts and are protective of those who have been wronged by others' evil deeds. Hence, they come upon the Ducotel family who has relocated from France due to misfortune and is trying, not so successfully, to manage a reasonable existence. The three convicts adopt the Ducotel family and become their guardian three angels who save them from two other family members who are intent on ensuring the family's unhappiness.

It has been my honor to direct this amazingly talented cast and crew who have brought this story of loyalty, love, greed, justice, and ultimately hope and redemption to life.  My hope is that as you watch My Three Angels, you will not only find yourself laughing out loud at the antics brought to life by these characters, but also moved by the sweet moments.  As we enter this holiday season, just as the three angels unexpectedly bring justice and ultimately joy and hope to those who have been wronged, I hope that you may be inspired to look for joy and hope in the most unexpected places. Since the holiday season is such a busy time of year, I am so very grateful that you have chosen to spend some of your time enjoying our funny and heartwarming rendition of My Three Angels.

Happy Holidays!
