 Note From The 'Producer'

It feels odd to be writing a note because this show really belongs to the students in every way, shape, and form. Last year, I got the crazy idea to let students direct one act plays and take a step back from the rehearsal process to be more of a producer to the show and mentor to our production team. I have to admit I was a little nervous because I didn't know how the production would go, but for me, that is part of what makes theater so interesting: the unknown.

Whether it's an actor discovering their character, someone on the tech team learning a new job, or an audience waiting for the curtain to open, the unknown is what makes theater so inviting. The unknown leads to discovery, discovery leads to learning, and learning is what high school theater is all about. For each show, I hope to be surprised during the process and to have learned something when the final curtain closes. I hope the same is true for the cast, crew, and you as an audience member.

I was shown once again just how talented and dedicated our students are here at TJ. Watching the production team take ownership of the show and handle every bump and curve along the way was a treat to see each day. Getting to work with and alongside the directors as they found a path for their show was inspiring. Welcoming in a whole cast of students new to the theater and TJ reinvigorated my love for helping students with their passions.

I am so excited for you to see our show tonight and see what happens when students take full ownership of our department. Enjoy the show!

To the Seniors:

It has been an honor to work with you these past three years. You all have had such a lasting positive impact on our department that I cannot begin to describe. With this show, you have helped to further build a holistic theatre department here at TJ. I cannot wait to work with you in the spring as you end your high school career.

Finally, a few thank yous:
