A note from our director:
We have performed many of Don Zolidis' shows at ThunderRidge and they never disappoint. Performing a show such as this is a super fun way to deliver a classic story. Our advanced class is small this year, so they had to take on multiple acting roles as well as tech. I'm proud of all their hard work. We hope you enjoy this goofy version of the Odyssey! Oh, and my weird combination choice would be Artichoke ice cream. :)
A note from our student director:
Hello everyone! First and foremost, thank you for coming to see our production of “The SeussOdyssey” - it means the world to both the cast and me that you are here tonight.
Ever since my freshman year, I wanted the opportunity to direct, so I’m thrilled to have student directed this awesome show. In the past, I’ve worked with several children’s theatre camps and classes as an assistant director (which is how I got introduced to directing), but this is the first time I’ve ever done it at a high school level. It’s a much different experience - on one hand, there’s more pressure because it’s a larger scale production, but on the other hand, directing high schoolers is way easier because they actually listen to me when I tell them what to do (for the most part ;) ).
Over the course of my senior year, I will have acted in two shows and stage managed for one, so I’m super psyched to add directing to my list and have done three major aspects to our theatre (acting, tech, and directing)! Having experience in both performing and teching has been super interesting because I get to see how the show comes together on both sides, and getting this opportunity has shown me a completely new side to a production and how different it is than anything I’ve ever done before. Major props to all student directors in the past and future!!!
A huge thank you to Kylene Hurley, for guiding me through this whole process and giving me the creative freedom that she has! The first step of this process - casting - was a huge task because there are upwards of 40 different characters in the show, and we had a cast of 14 to work with. Once we started rehearsing, it was evident how much much fun we were all going to have with the show, and how willing everyone was to be creative and goofy onstage. As you’ll come to know, this show isn’t exactly traditional in its writing, so we got to have a ton of fun with how it was directed and not worry about super strict directions pre-laid out for us in the script.
I’d also like to thank the amazing cast that doubled as our crew for all the hard work they put into acting and tech. You guys made for a pretty great show, given that there are only 14 of you. Also, thank you to Homer, Dr. Seuss, and Don Zolidis for your stories.
I hope you all enjoy the show and learn something new!
Ellie Sinclair :)
