Welcome to Timnath's first High School Musical: Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella. As a Director, it is always interesting to return to a piece of theatre you have done before. My hope was to rediscover the magic and amazement with this fresh take on the classic tale. I wanted to rediscover the story with a fresh perspective and discover new moments to share with our performers and audience.
Cinderella is one of the oldest and most popular fairytales. In fact, in researching this production several years ago for Candlelight, I found the book Three Hundred and Forty-Five Variants of Cindrella, Catskin, and Cap O'Rushes by Marian Roalfe Cox. I knew this story had transcended generations, however I was eager to learn about how many cultures and regions across the world this story is found in.
Our production of Cindrella has left nothing out as it's our largest production to date. (Not a small feat for year three!) What we are most proud of is the amount of collaboration and many firsts for Light of the Moon. As we added our orchestra we are upwards of 100 students involved in this production. Simply amazing! The love of theatre is alive and well at Timnath.
Marie sings: "Impossible things are happening everyday." That is an understatement for this particular production. The scenic design was completely realized by Senior, Molly Higgins. Our concept was to return to the nostalgia of pop-up books as it may look through Cindrella's eyes. We hope you see the mixture of 2-D and 3-D elements in our designs. The phenomenal animal headdresses designed by Junior Skylar Kreml are out of this world. Every team has worked tirelessly to create our very own pop-up book with magical sets, costumes, lighting, special effects, sights and sounds to be remembered for a lifetime.
A few weeks ago, I had the rare opportunity to just sit back and watch every aspect of the process. I smiled. My Heart was full. I watched every single member of the company and creative team pour their hearts into making this show a reality. This production has helped revitalize my love of storytelling and I was able to rediscover my love for creating musical theatre! Thank you to all of our students, teachers, mentors, parents, and community members that have donated and sponsored our show.
We hope you enjoy this magical tale told with fresh perspective, a few twists and turns, delivered with so much heart and magic. You too will quickly rediscover that "Impossible things are happening everyday!"
