American Idiot - May 26 - June 05, 2016

FROM THE DIRECTOR-

American Idiot feels like the angry side of people in their late teens or early 20s.

They're pissed off and can point at some reasons why but, in the end, they're not necessarily sure exactly why they're so angry.

There's a time in your life where you're floating between being a child and being the adult you think will take on the world and burn your name across history.  A place where most people find that their ambition maybe isn't so grand but, damn it, it should happen anyway.  It's a feeling that finds fertile soil in the disaffected youth of the small towns with money and the endless suburban landscapes.

They have difficulties, sure, but they're not life and death problems you find in other places.

If these characters were richer they might have been diagnosed with depression or had therapy to help them through this.  All they have is music and drugs and sex and anger.

And fuck it, music and sex and drugs and anger are popular because they're fun.  Because they feed something inside of us that needs fed.  The question is: will it see you out the other side in one piece?

Johnny and Tunny see the world and get chewed up and spit out by it.  Will is dragged under the gears of his own inability to generate inertia.

Might as well enjoy that with a bit of punk rock.
