Legally Blonde The Musical - June 01 - June 03, 2018

UNCSA Acting Out

 End Notes

Director's Notes:

The story of Elle Woods' journey toward self-love and independence is one that is uniquely topical in our current society. The implicit themes of classism, gender stereotype, bias, glass ceilings and the re-emergence of modern feminism are cleverly hidden within this fun, bright, bubbly package of a show. Exactly the kind of bright, bubbly package that Elle herself would choose to tell her story.

Elle Woods is a phenomenon. As a beautiful, affluent, white girl growing up in Malibu, everything was handed to her and nothing was ever asked of her. It isn't until she makes the somewhat silly and short-sighted decision to follow a boy to Harvard Law School that she finally begins to challenge herself, and find her own way in the world as an individual. She proves to be remarkably intelligent, self-sufficient and resourceful. True colors that were inside of her all along, not in opposition to, but in addition to all that pink.

Through her journey, every character in this story is revealed or given permission to be their truest, most authentic selves, for better or for worse. And through that, we are encouraged to do the same.
